- Coffee and tea. It’s not fair to put all types of tea in one category, as there are many different teas in different colors that have the ability to change your hair color for a few weeks as well. Chamomile is very popular for creating a balayage effect on your light brown hair. Coffee works great if you are looking to go darker, cover up gray hair, or add dimension to dark braids. It also protects the keratin of the hair and in this sense stimulates their growth and prevents their fall. Just brew a strong coffee, let it cool, then mix one cup with a couple of tablespoons of leave in conditioner and 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds. Apply to clean hair and let sit for about an hour.
