After a few months of rumors and leaks, Motorola has just announced the return for January 2020 of one of its best-selling phones, the Razr, in a modernized version and above all with a foldable screen. A true star of its generation, the phone launched in 2004 sees its keyboard and 2.2 ″ LCD screen replaced by a 6.2-inch foldable plastic OLED version, while retaining the original design that made it so successful. Powered by Android 9, the next-generation Motorola Razr will be launched earlier this year in the US for $ 1,499.
Motorola Razr makes a comeback in a foldable screen version
The Razr 2.0 differs from other foldable smartphones already featured by an inverted design. In fact, as current and future models transform to double their size, Motorola’s newborn baby bends in half to reduce its size, much like its flapper of yesteryear. It also retains its traditional thick bottom border, now equipped with a fingerprint sensor and a USB-C port. With a size of 6.2 inches when unfolded, the Razr is thus placed in the average of current smartphones with its 21: 9 plastic OLED screen that fits in the pocket when folded, while offering a second outer OLED panel. 2.7-inch glass called QuickView, which allows you to consult its notifications and use the camera in selfie mode without having to unfold the device. While foldable screens still arouse skepticism about their reliability, Motorola is trying to reassure the lifespan of its Flex View, backed by the brand’s “years of experience” in terms of plastic-coated OLED screens and several quality patents developed in partnership with the Lenovo parent company.
Motorola Razr: the return of the child prodigy
Contrary to the 100% vintage bet taken by Nokia with the marketing of its legendary 3310 or 2710, Motorola is offering this time a modernized version of its Razr released more than fifteen years ago. However, it seems that the manufacturer has focused more on the design of the device than on its performance. Indeed, the phone will be satisfied with 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of expandable memory and a Snapdragon 710, chosen by the brand so as not to hamper the autonomy of its 2510 mAh battery too much and to limit its size. The design of the Razr also owes it to restrain itself in terms of camera with a 16 megapixel camera..
A 6.2 ″ plastic OLED folding screen
Despite its mid-range specs, the Motorola Razr 2020 will only be sold in the United States next January for $ 1,499, which still makes it the cheapest foldable device on the market today..
The Motorola Razr 2020 is currently not planned in France
